A shatter was heard throughout the decayed building. From the far back corner, one shrouded in blackness, was a capsule leaning up against the corner. Ice was formed around it and the corner, encompassing everything in an eerie navy. Thin streams of steam rose from the edge as another crack echoed through the room as the seal finally broke.
From within the platinum capsule came a cough, followed by a few pops as the person stepped out onto solid ground for the first time in years. The woman, for that is what she is, looked around herself, her violet eyes taking in the decayed building with a look of sadness, as if she had seen the building when new.
Her hair tumbled to the floor in obsidian waves and had a slight sheen to it from the years upon years of going unwashed. Her dress, a light blue Victorian summer dress with a lace frill and leather corset, was ratty and worn from the years of sleep. Upon the capsule laid a copper plaque, one that she carefully scraped the ice from. It read; Here lies Magdalena Faust, may she carry out her days in peace.
She hummed as she remembered what had happened. It had been so fast, and no one had thought to help her; except for the one who had placed her inside of this capsule… who had that man been? He had snuck up on her as soon as she broke through ground.
"I see you're awake."
She whipped around, using her enhanced speed to pin the man against the wall by the throat. "Who are you and why did you place me in there?"
He held his hands up in the universal peace gesture. "I am Aidenze Korono, a demon, like you, just not one as recently turned as you had been. If I had not grabbed you as you escaped you would have went on a killing spree… though you did get me pretty good that day." He smirked at her. "Besides, I am to be your mentor. I can't have my student killing when the time is not right."
"Where is here….what happened to the hotel? Why does it look like this?" Magdalena couldn't keep the despair out of her voice as she slowly lowered Aidenze. "How could you do this without informing me of what was to happen?"
"Do you remember your family? Your friends? Anything besides this hotel?" Aidenze asked, brushing his shoulders off.
"Now that you mention it… I don't remember my mother's face. Her name had been Rosette… hadn't it? And there was… Antoinette? I don't… remember…" Her face fell as she realized that he was right, she couldn't remember anything. "Wait, hadn't the year been 1826? What year is it now?"
"It is currently the year of our emperor 5826. You have been sleeping for 4,000 years." Aidenze said, studying her carefully.
"Don't you mean the year of our Queen? And you didn't answer my other question." Magdalena said, glaring at the older demon.
"Ah, no, I didn't mean Queen. Times have change Ms. Faust. There is no Queen, only the emperor and us outcast, any which are not human. Halflings are allowed into the cities but we, we all were driven underground by the Knights of Slavargus. You are now one of those very outcasts. To answer your other question, we are currently on the outskirts of a continent known as Avalonia. It is the main location of the Knights. The Knights fight for the humans and are against everything that is not human made. We, the Neo Order, are fighting for the rights of all non-humans. I hope that you will come to fully join the Order when you have come of age, which should be very soon. Your powers are bubbling just beneath the surface and should snap in a few weeks. By that time I plan to have you caught up with the past 4,000 years. Do not fret though; you will be safe if you stick with us. We wish you no harm and can give you a warm place to stay." Aidenze said, placing his hand on her shoulder.
Magdalena looked up into Aidenze's crimson eyes with a lost look in her eyes, "Am I really alone here…?"
Aidenze's eyes softened, "I'm afraid that you are without family but I truly hope that the Order and I can become your new family. You are not the first demon to go through this and you won't be the last. I deeply regret not allowing you the last moments with your family but they are long gone and you cannot go back for them. I request that you stick to this time, it is safer for you here than back in your time anyways. Now come, let us head back to the compound."
Magdalena nodded, blindly following Aidenze down through a hidden door in the floor.
They walked deeper and deeper into the Earth, the area around them becoming damp as they slipped into a cave. The stalactites and stalagmites covered the floor and a trail was barely discernible from the rest of the floor.
As they slipped into another side tunnel, one with light at the end, voices echoed up to them.
"-an't really do anything till he gets back sis, you know that."
"Whatever! You know for a fact he wouldn't mind as long as I didn't get caught!"
"Caught doing what Virabelle?" Aidenze asked, exiting the tunnel. Magdalena stood behind him, looking out into the opening in astonishment, it was brilliant.
Off in the far corner was a crystal clear pool with a waterfall coming out of the rocks. The water in the pool glowed slightly and gave the cavern most of its light. On the opposite side was a wall full of homes, tunnels, and various people mining. The floor was clear of all clutter and children ran around playing. All of them had something special about them, she could feel the power radiating around them. But the most noticeable was coming from the pair in front of her.
They were obviously twins. Both had hair the color of blood, contrasting greatly to Aidenze's blinding white locks. Their eyes were swirling silver with flecks of gold. Reptilian like ears stuck out from the sides of their heads, coming to a point and before moving back down in a serrated edge style. They were crimson as well, though the insides were lighter. On their backs, slightly stretched out, sensing a newcomer, were enormous leather-like wings and a tail whipped back and forth upon the ground. They were ferocious looking but Aidenze simply smacked them upside the head.
"Magdalena, this is Virabelle," He said, pointing at the girl, "And Sven. They are our resident dragons. This is merely their human form, seeing how we cannot fit two grown dragons in this cavern with all of the other creatures. I believe you all may get along just fine, or you should get used to being around each other at least, you are going to be learning a few things from them as well." He smirked at the twins, "You two, this is Magdalena Faust, she has been asleep in the capsule for nearly 4,000 years. If you still want to know some history, she can easily give you history from the 19th century. Now, I will leave you all alone to get situated, they know where to take you Magdalena, and they know not to harm you. I do hope you all get along though… It would be too troublesome if you didn't." Aidenze said, walking away quickly.
Virabelle and Sven looked at her closely before betrayal shone in their eyes. They turned around quickly and yelled, "HEY! You didn't tell us if we could do that yet!"
Magdalena tilted her head to the side, "Do what yet?"
The twins grinned widely, a malicious glint coming to the eyes as they looked at her, "Why my dear little demon childe… dragon demons are notorious tricksters so we were going to do a few harmless pranks but I do believe that we will have to teach you how to get away with pranking Aidenze first!" They said, switching between each other to explain.
Magdalena glared at them, "D'you have to do that? Can't you keep it to one person?"
The grinned even wider, "Nope!"
She sighed but couldn't help the answering grin. She shook her head and glanced up at them, a spark of mischief in her eyes, "What comes first oh wise ones?"
Oh yes, they were all going to get along fabulously.
